BRITNEY SPEARS...BACK WITH A BANG. SHE MAY HAVE BEEN DRUNK BUT SHE IS NO FOOL!
The meteoric rise of Britney Spears in the final throes of 2008 was nothing more than spectacular. Now a shadow of her former troubled self, the Britney machine is back full force and for the fans it appears it's only just begun. Right now the single "Womanizer" from the album Circus has reached a top spot in the Billboard top 100, thrusting her back in to "pop royalty" with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Lil Wayne and T.I.. In September Britney took home three awards from the VMA's, one of which was the "Video of the Year". Since 2004 America has been waiting for the Britney that they knew and loved and finally, she has arrived.
For Britney the past four years have been a roller-coaster both personally and professionally. The trouble began in early 2004 after drunkenly wedding her high school friend and later on wedding Kevin Federline, a background dancer who adopted the moniker "K-Fed". Britney and K-Fed had the publics eye since they were first linked after one of Britney's many inebriated rampages through Hollywood that ended with a two night stay with Federline in the Beverly Hills Hotel. Once the two were married the couple broadcast their everyday life on the CW reality show "Chaotic", which captured the dysfunction and craziness that would lead to the Britney train wreck. Soon after the marriage, Britney had two children Sean Preston and Jayden James Federline. On her official websites blog, Britney posted that "My baby is now my religion", a jab at her former dabbling with Kabbalah with long time friend and mentor Madonna.
After the children were born, Britney was caught partying with Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and other elite Hollywood twenty-somethings. During these wild nights out, Britney was caught off guard and in compromising positions by the paparazzi. The infamous crotch shot was captured in this time, her romp in the pool with a female dancer and many other stories were brought to light by the Hollywood muckrakers. K-Fed was not in the clear either, as he had frequent outings with paradise city frat boys Ashton Kutcher, Sean William Scott, and former Britney bud Paris Hilton. Eventually the two separated, then divorced after allegations of cheating made by both parties.
After the split, Britney had a chance to redeem her tarnished personal image and become "the single mother" celebutante. As a new mother Britney still had very little experience caring for children, and the evidence kept on popping up on the paparazzi radar. Any chance of redemption had passed as her slip up with Sean Preston and driving with Sean in her lap raised questions about her ability to raise the children.
With all of the chaos and rumors spreading, incriminating pictures raising eyebrows, and children to care for Britney had begun to gain weight and lose sight of herself. Allegedly, Britney began using drugs and alcohol as an escape for the everyday stresses and it all became too much to handle. Spears shaved her head, attacked the paparazzi, and had an emotional breakdown. During this time K-Fed and Spears were battling for the custody of their two children, and Britney rarely showed for court dates. By this time, the outlook for Mrs. Spears was bleak.
Spears comeback began in late 2007 with the release of the album Blackout. Though the album had to be released early because it leaked on the Internet, sales and airtime rose enough to place it in the Billboard Top 200 for the year. Her first single "Gimme More" reintroduced her back in to the pop scene with a sassy, sexy "It's Britney Bitch!", as if we had forgotten. After the release of the Album "Blackout" Britney made an appearance on the VMA's and performed her single live, and failed to wow her now alienated fan base. The public was expecting the Britney that they knew in the early 2000's. A writhing sexpot with flash, flair and a million dollar smile. Approximately seven months later, Britney cleared her name on the MTV special " Britney: For the Record". She explained her background and the stress factors of the past few years, as well as what she has been doing in that time. This was a soft reintroduction to the public that nudged open the gates for the deluge to come.
A short time after that the pop star released the chart topping "Circus". Britney was invited to the VMA's once more, and this time she redeemed herself fully, taking home three VMA awards and being the goofy, sexy songstress we all know and love. Not only did she win back the hearts of her old fan base of millennial's, but gained a whole new audience consisting of their Hannah Montana loving children. Britney's album and singles rocket to the top was record breaking, so was her transient comeback to the spotlight in 2008. As undying members of the Britney fan base only hope to see more of this new Britney and everything she has to offer, Brit is proving she can do what she does best. It looks as though she "did it again". Oops!
